Breeze Hotel, Mawlamyine
Breeze Hotel, Mawlamyine

Locals know this guesthouse by its Myanmar name, Lay Hnyin Tha so if you're coming here by seikah or taxi, ask for it by this name. The guesthouse is actually a large colonial style house renovated with tiny cubicle rooms in the front hall for locals to use and decent size rooms for foreigners around the back. Upstairs is the "penthouse" where special guests are accommodated in a very large room with an attached bathroom and two double beds. You also get a beautiful view of the Thanlwin river from one of four windows in this room. After some recent renovations, there are now four rooms downstairs that are equipped with attached bathrooms with air con.

The owner can change USD to Myanmar Kyat at rates comparable to the current rates in Yangon. The staff there can also act as tourist guides and offer travel advice to various places around Mawlamyine as well as the ferry ride to Hpa-An, which operates on Mondays and Fridays at 12:00pm and takes 4 hours costing 7000 kyats. Note, there's a minimum of 10 people for the ferry boat ride to Hpa-An. If there are less than 10, the boat will still operate if the passengers are willing to pay extra, amounting to the minimum of 10 fares.
