Aurora Guesthouse, Mawlamyine

Aurora Guest House is located on Lower Main Rd about a five minute walk from Zeigyi, the central market in Mawlmayine, and around the corner from the mouth of the Thanlwin river.
The guest house has 6 well equipped rooms for foreign independent travellers with TV, a bar fridge, air conditioning and hot and cold showers which sometimes work. Rates do not include breakfast (unless on request) and the rooms are small and have seen better days. The TV in the room can receive local channels, but if you wish to view satellite TV, this is linked to the common TV in the foyer, so your choice of programs are limited to what others are viewing. You can request to view a specific channel from your room, eg BBC, CNN or Channel News Asia etc, but this will depend on the manager and whether other guests have made their own requests.
There are also basic rooms with no windows but with fans and shared bathroom facilities for slightly cheaper. As with most Myanmar guest houses of this size, a communal TV can be found on the main floor where you can mingle with the manager and other travellers, foreign and locals alike. The guest house has a generator in the event of power black-outs which occurs daily, however, it is used sparingly, and usually only at night or early morning.
Locals know this guesthouse by its Myanmar name, Moe Thout Phan so if you're wanting to get there by seikah or taxi, you'll need to call it by this name which can be a little tricky to pronounce. If you do have trouble, then print off this address card and hand it to your driver.
